Happy Birthday, Mom!

This blog has been hacked by Kim’s three daughters.  In honor of her birthday, we are going to tell some of our favorite mom stories and give you the inside scoop.

Chelsea:  There is no doubt in my mind that I have the most awesome mom in the world!  There are many great qualities that my mom has, but the thing that I love the most about her is that she is always there for me, no matter what the situation, with loving support and wise advice.  She has helped me through many trying times and I am so thankful that I have a mom that I know I can go to with anything.  My first semester at Auburn, I wanted to try-out for Soccer Sweethearts, the hostesses for the Auburn men’s soccer team.  At the informational meeting we were told that there would be an interview and that we should dress in “business attire.”  After the meeting I called my mom in a slight panic and asked her if I had anything in my closet that fit into this category and she said, “no but we can fix that!”  The next Saturday morning Mom and Kate drove all the way up to Montgomery to help me shop for an appropriate business outfit.  After a couple of hours of trying on every possible combination of pencil skirt and blouse in Banana Republic and J.Crew, we all agreed on an outfit (and shoes to match, of course) and I felt much better about my first Auburn interview!  My mom does not do anything halfway or mediocre.  If I come to her with a problem, whether it is a fashion emergency, stressful school situation, relationship issue, or just if I’m having a bad day, she does what it takes to help get me back on track and I always feel better after talking things over with her.  My mom has been an unwavering support system in my life and I hope one day to be as strong and wise as she is!  So, happy birthday Mom! Thanks for all you do for me.  I love and miss you more than you know!

Nicole:  My mom is a talker.  This is one of the things I love best about her.  She tells a good story and in lots of detail.  When I was around 8, Mom and I got in her car to run some errands.  We were well into a deep gab session by the time the garage door opened and we began to swiftly back out of the garage.  The story and laughter was only interrupted when we hit my dad’s giant truck that was parked in the driveway behind us.  This happened to us not once but TWICE!  This story is not a testament to my mom’s driving skills; she is a great driver.  But it is evidence of the type of relationship we have.  When I found out I was pregnant, my husband and I decided we wanted to wait to tell our parents in person.  It was terrible and I had to keep our conversations short because I thought I would explode.  On Mother’s Day, I called her to tell her Happy Mother’s Day and I immediately started to cry uncontrollably and blurted it out.  I couldn’t handle keeping the biggest news of my life from my mom and my best friend for any length of time.  I know the crying might have been hormone induced, but I think it was also due to the self-imposed mom-drought.  I just needed to talk, and my mom is the best to listen to my rants, triumphs, and worries.

Katelyn: My mom knows how to commit. When she sets her mind to something, she does everything in her power to make sure it happens. This is one of the things I love most about her. When I was in Eighth Grade I decided to try out for cheerleading at my high school. The only experience I had was at my very small private school; needless to say, I needed a lot of help and practice. After a lot of hard work and encouragement from my mother, I made the team and was ecstatic. Now, my dreams are of a different nature. My sights are set on Vanderbilt University after I graduate high school this year.  Both my parents are helping me, and I know I wouldn’t be able to do it without them. So on her birthday, I want to tell my mom thanks. Thanks for believing in me and helping me.  I love you!

We hope you enjoyed our birthday blog.  We love her dearly and are happy to share her with the world.

No really, this is our mom.

Earl's Not The Only Thing Happening This Weekend!

After cancelling our anniversary trip to Maine on Wednesday we recovered quickly and decided to save flying and car rentals for another time...So what should we do I asked Rich...to which he said "Birmingham to see Claire and all of our kids...of course!"

So it is Friday afternoon and I have the car packed. I just need Kate home from school and Rich to call and say...meeting's over, and we are on our way!!  We will have a grand weekend staying at the Wynfrey Hotel (shopping and Starbucks downstairs).  We might find Claire a swing set for the backyard and that will give Pop a project = ).  We will watch some college football and on Sunday Chelsea and Stephen will pop in for a visit from Auburn!

Really, other than going away for a long weekend with my favorite guy, being with my kids is the thing I love most...so go ahead soon-to-be-tropical storm Earl... bobble to the east and let Maine have a beautiful weekend after all...
This is my life and I love it!!
